Will Smith is on a roll. And has been for a while. News about how brilliant he is in manufacturing his success is a tale not common from Tinseltown. I personally feel he’s one of the few Hollywood actors who can not only command a Box Office but also manage his wealth.
The movie is pretty straight forward; story of a man with super strength & the ability to fly (any other powers is up to your imagination) but is down and out. The city hates him and in a way he hates himself. Mr. Smith plays this character with ease but with the limited script it’s difficult not to see him as dry. There’s not a lot of soul here compared to his role in The Legend of Bagger Vance. Personally I feel Charlize Theron’s character has more tangible emotion..
Another thing you’ll probably note is that the visual effects aren’t that convincing. Hancock looks almost cartoonish when flying round! In fact it reminds me of Keanu Reeves’ Neo going against the multitude of Agent Smith’s in The Matrix Reloaded. Oh so plastic!
In any case, I’m sure this movie will still rake in the millions commonly associated with most of Will Smith’s action flicks. Like I said earlier, he’s bankable persona and Box Office appeal will always be a crowd puller. A 3 out of 5 in my book. =)
